After the devastating 1853 fire, which destroyed the bulk of the Harper inventory, the firm rebuilt, and opened their new facility in 1855. While we don't have definitive documentation that this is the first catalogue issued after their move, it's
appearance in red cloth with elaborate gilt decorations, implies a special circumstance surrounding its issuance.
Scarce post-fire, mid-19th C trade catalogue from this prominent publisher founded in 1817 who still exists, as HARPERCOLLINS, in this day.
