Based on Charles Dickens' unfinished novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood is celebrated as the first Broadway musical with multiple endings determined by audience vote. In 1986, the show won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, from among eleven nominations. Rupert Holmes received Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
