The Charles Dickens edition was the 4th major set issued by Chapman & Hall, beginning in 1867 with Pickwick Papers, and continuing publication through 1875, with a total of 21 volumes issued.
While this is a rare publisher prospectus for the set, an "entirely new edition of the whole of Mr. Dickens's Works", we are fortunate enough to have recently acquired this 2nd copy [the 1st being over a decade ago], wherein the publisher asserts, "It will be produced with especial care, and has been devised by Mr. Dickens and his Publishers, with the object of combining the four important points: Legibility, Durability, Beauty, and Cheapness."
