Initially issued privately under the title, "With the American Ambulance Field Service in France," Buswell's letters offered one of the first published accounts of life on the front as experienced by American ambulance drivers during WWI.

A folded, tipped-in leaf at the rear requests donations for the Service Fund and advertises the need for additional volunteers.
