SOFT PASTE CHILDREN'S MUG, With 1850s San Francisco Scene.
[San Francisco?]. Ca 1850s (?). Blank base. Wraparound image, in red, of San Francisco harbor. Height: 2-3/16" Diameter: 2-1/4". Overall width, with handle: 3-1/4". Lip with small manufacturing defect, other very minor wear, VG+. Item #48929
The scene on the mug reminiscent of an 1851 Currier & Ives print of San Francisco harbor, after a drawing by Wm. B. McMurtrie (cf. Currier & Ives Catalogue Raisonné 6922 & 6933).
A rare surviving artifact from, we presume, mid-19th C San Francisco, with the manufacturer, no doubt, attempting to ride the wave of civilization that began to make itself felt in San Francisco during the 1850s.
Price: $475.00
