[11] - 292 pp. 12mo. 7-1/2" x 5". Original publisher's blue cloth binding with gilt stamped title lettering to spine & boards stamped in blind. Pale yellow eps. Slight lean. Light extremity wear to binding. Pencil pos to ffep top margin. Bookseller ticket ["Seymour & Alward's / Book Store / Auburn, N.Y."] to front paste-down. First 30 leaves of text-block with gradually diminishing & fading sem-circular stain [2-1/4" at largest] to fore-edge. A VG copy. Item #4613.2

Hard Times first appeared in the US publication of "Household Words" issued by McElrath, who published it in such a way as to encourage individuals to bind their own volume, even going so far as to provide a cover wrapper. Harper followed with their own wrappered edition in their "Library of Select Novels" [cf. Gimbel A139], and then this cloth edition.
