This is a wine list from The Showboat restaurant in Jack London Square. Stated at the head of the menu is a quote from Thomas Love Peacock (1785 - 1866): "Where wine is not, no mirth the banquet knows".
The Showboat was a restaurant on a boat located in the estuary of Jack London. The first boat, the Petaluma was operating as a restaurant from 1951 - 1956. It burned down and sank in 1956. It still is sitting below in the estuary. The second ship (which this menu is from), the USAT General Frank M. Coxe was operating as a restaurant from 1959 - 1971. The owners eventually decided there were too many restaurants in Jack London Square and the Coxe moved to a couple different places around the bay operating as different restaurants. In 2014 it was moved back to Stockton. A brief history of the Coxe is noted on the lower wrapper.
