This translation a popular rendition of Aesop's fables, with each illustrated with its own oval-shaped, rectangular framed wood engraving as well as translator's analysis; the index provides a list of qualities with their associated fables. Croxall's translation first issued in 1722, with the most prevalent prior English version being that of L'Estrange, whose reflections and interpretations Croxall here derides in his preface.
