MENU. The Brass Rail. Sunday, April 9th, 1933.

New York: The Brass Rail, 1933. Bifolium (4 pages) plus small, stapled-in "Sea Food Combination" card. Dining fare printed in three columns on center pages, beverage list to last page. 12-3/8" x 7-1/2". Offwhite leaves with gilt and black lettering and decoration. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve. Light general wear; tack punctures with short tears to head and foot, small loss to head of front page; rusting to staple affixing the "Sea Food" card. Three menu additions (with prices) written in ink to center pages. VG. Item #42434

Fully priced menu for the Brass Rail, located at 7th Ave at 49th St., "An Eating Place of International Fame".

Fare includes Turkey Gumbo Soup with Rice, $.20; Brass Rail Ham and Cabbage, Baked Potato, $.85; "Pot of Sanka Coffee or Kaffee Haag," $.25; and many more. The Beverage List suggests a somewhat loose interpretation of Prohibition, or else the eager anticipication of its eradication later that year: a typographic box marked "Reserved for Wines and Champagnes" is nestled between the beer list and ginger ales, and the beers include Guiness's Stout and several German droughts, rather than the typical super-light Anheuser Busch Budweiser varieties manufactured to meet the alcohol level limitations of the time.

Price: $25.00
