Brown infamous for the Harper's Ferry raid, ultimately resulting in his capture & execution by hanging, December 2, 1859. Offered here a salt print, three quarter length portrait of John Brown, which reproduces a daguerreotype attributed to Martin M. Lawrence. A prior owner note states this photograph issued by Batchelder was done so with Brown's concurrence & authorization.
