Carey, beginning his career in 1785, was a monumental figure in the early history of US publishing... to quote Tebbel, "Carey accomplished so many noteworthy things that it is difficult to choose which to mention. ... Carey's influence on publishing history went beyond his list, however. His success as a bookseller, his efforts to organize the trade and to improve the distribution of books, were as notable as what he published." [Tebbel, HISTORY v1, pp. 106 - 109].

Carey took his son, Henry Charles, into business with him in 1817, so this a very early trade catalogue from one of the premier publishing firms of the early 19th C.
