The character of Reynard the Fox a folklore fixture, thought to have originated in Alsace-Lorraine before spreading to France, the Low Countries & Germany. The character received expanded treatment by Pierre Saint-Cloud, ca 1170, in his Le Roman de Renart. Caxton first published the tale under the title Reynard the Fox, in 1481.
This a somewhat uncommon early 18th C English translation, with ABPC showing no copies at auction these past 30+ years.
