A contemporaneous publication of Dickens' 24 November 1858 letter to Thackeray, attempting to mediate the Garrick club brouhaha that sprung up between Thackeray & Edmund Yates [a Dickens' protege, of sorts]. As a result of this conflict, Dickens & Thackery became estranged, not speaking again until shortly before Thackeray's death in 1863 (cf. Johnson, TRAGEDY And TRIUMPH, pp 931 - 936).
