Back in the Saddle Again

Back in the Saddle Again

Well, Tavistock Books is back in operation…. sort of.  My database tells me I have 10,390 items available for possible sale, albeit the preponderance of those are all still in boxes.  Since May 7th, when the 3rd & final load was trucked  up to Reno from 1503 Webster, of those 10,390 items I have in boxes, I’ve unpacked 494 items and shelved them about the new shop.  In many cases, like old friends, we became reacquainted, some eliciting a “Wow, I forgot you were here!”  😃

Here are 20 of those 494 items, including many ‘old friends’, selected for your consideration in this week’s FS list.

Enjoy.

From the Alcove Case

From the Alcove Case

26 years in Alameda, and that time is coming to an end.  Over those 2+ decades, Tavistock Books has issued a goodly number of FS lists… with that in mind, as we prepare for our move on 26 March, this will be the last list originating from 1503 Webster Street.  And the material herein comes from our “Alcove Case”.  It is the case shop visitors would see to their right as they made their way into the shop, and the case I used to house some of my more interesting material.  Herewith are 15 items from said case.  I hope you too find them ‘interesting’.

New. Fresh. Just In.

New. Fresh. Just In.

These are all terms or phrases booksellers use to describe recent arrivals to their inventory…  from the collector’s perspective, such an announcement portends the possibility of finding that one elusive item that has been sought for … well, a while.  Or, even, finding that one something that you didn’t know you wanted…?  For colleagues in the trade, it raises the possibility of finding a ‘sleeper’, or that one title needed by a preferred customer, thereby enhancing their symbiotic relationship.  For the bookseller offering these treasures, it means the last few weeks has been filled with research, discovery and, hopefully, satisfaction in having one’s acquisition instincts validated.

So, herewith, we offer 13  New…  Fresh…  Just In …   items.

Perhaps one, you’ll find, is one you’ve been seeking…?

In any case, do enjoy perusing the list, should you favor us by dong so.

Thank you for your time & consideration.

2023 New Acquisitions [Mostly]

2023 New Acquisitions [Mostly]

It’s February already!  OMG, time is passing so quickly, and here it is already time for our 1st FS list in  the 2nd month of 2023.  So, without further ado, allow me to introduce to you, gentle reader, our 15 offerings for this month, mostly recent acquisitions obtained & catalogued this past month.  You’ll find a scarce Italian cookery book, a small press Carol edition not often seen on the market, a Zamorano 80 title, and 12 other interesting [or so I believe] titles to pique your book collecting interests.

Christmas is Nigh

Christmas is Nigh

"The year end brings no greater pleasure then the opportunity to express to you season's greetings and good wishes. May your holidays and new year be filled with joy.

Charles Dickens.

And with this quote in mind, our last FS of 2022 focuses on this coming Christmas holiday, with 15 items from stock that have some connection to the Christmas spirit & day.  We hope you enjoy browsing these selections, and will close by wishing all our friends & colleagues, as Charles Dickens said above, a Happy Holidays!
ARCHIVES, A FS List

ARCHIVES, A FS List

As a bookseller, we often get calls of this nature:  “I know you buy books, but I have an entire estate to disperse…  do you, by chance, also purchase diaries, papers, photo albums, that sort of thing?”  My reply, “Why yes, we do.”  Such an acquisition is typically termed an ‘archive’.  And that, gentle reader, is the theme of this week’s FS list.  Archives.  Here offered are 15 archives, of a diverse nature, of the 30+ that would pop out should you do a search for the keyword ‘archive’ on our tavbooks.com website.

We invite you to peruse our ‘Archives' list, and should you find something that piques your interest, please inquire should you have any questions, or even better [from our perspective], place an order for same.

In either case, enjoy.

Pamphlets of a Miscellaneous Nature

Pamphlets of a Miscellaneous Nature

A pamphlet is defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary as "a small booklet or leaflet containing information or arguments about a single subject.”  In the history of printing, pamphlets occupy a distinguished niche.  Likewise, in a bookseller’s inventory, they also occupy a distinguished niche.  As I was thinking about this genre, I did a search of my inventory using the keyword “pamphlet”, with over 200 items popping out.  Herewith we offer 20, of a miscellaneous nature, covering a myriad of subjects, over a range of eras.
