Original, elaborately-embossed, black/brown cloth (w/ publisher monogram noting 'Uniform Duodecimo Edition'). Yellow eps. Early printing, preceding that of Hotten's 1870 "Hunted Down" (See Eckel, pp. 198-199 Gimbel D26 & D37). [9] - 467, [3 (blank)] pp. Frontispiece, vignette title, and inserted woodcuts in HUNTED DOWN, Crown 8vo. Slight lean, with a somewhat dull spine. Modest extremity wear, including tips which show board. Withal, a respectible VG+ copy. HUNTED DOWN, a Queen's - Quorum title, first published in the New York Ledger, and Peterson obtained permission to later republish the story. The volume also contains Wilkie Collins' story, 'The Ghost in the Cupboard Room', and Elizabeth Gaskell's 'The Ghost in the Garden Room'.
